Il fallecido ex presidente Raúl Alfonsín pasó a integrar, desde el martes 31 de marzo a las 20:30, una larga lista de ex jefes de Estado de la Argentina cuya pertenencia a la Masonería está teñida de misterio, dudas y versiones contradictorias.
La muerte del principal arquitecto de la democracia recuperada tras la dictadura militar generó una serie de adhesiones y de mensajes de condolencias que poblaron los medios de comunicación y las páginas de internet oficiales de diferentes instituciones.
La Gran Logia de la Argentina de Libres y Aceptados Masones y el Supremo Consejo de Grado 33 fue una de las que se sumaron desde el primer minuto, pero sin aclarar si Raúl Alfonsín formaba parte de una de las entidades más antiguas y más herméticas no sólo de la Argentina, sino quizá, del mundo.
En el diario La Nación, las instituciones emitieron su mensaje de solidaridad y dolor por la muerte del gran demócrata, con palabras que eludieron las definiciones sobre la existencia de un vínculo. Con las palabras del Gran Maestre Ángel Jorge Clavero, el misterio no se despejó. De hecho, en el sitio oficial de la organización las palabras son las siguientes:

In fact, the official website of the organization are the following words: "The Grand Lodge of Argentina of Free and Accepted Masons and the Supreme Council of the 33d Degree of the Republic Argentina wished to convey their pain at the death of Dr. Raul Ricardo Alfonsin."
