Religion, politics and evolution of mankind (António Oliveira)

(...) My Christian background makes me, not by compulsion, but by common sense and discretion, respect for all religions, seeing them different paths that lead man to the same goal: God.
But I believe - and this is my personal view - that religion is a human invention. God, through Moses, then Jesus left us only guidelines to follow. The men created religions according to their understanding and evolving towards interests of the entire order.The true Church of Peter has been defaced, lost for centuries because it was inconvenient to the narrow interests of "leaders" religious. Only prayer, faithfulness to Christian principles and love for our neighbor did not make sense for so-called successors of Peter. Would require far more than this: a whole hierarchy of power that go beyond the fields of religion.(...)
