The Grand Orient of France is opening its museum the next 10 February in the center of Paris at Rua Cadet, 16, and its open for the general public every day except sunday, after 2:00 pm. The oldest French Obedience inaugurates a Museum that should accommodate one of the best collections of masonic pafernalia in all Europe. A place to visit for everyone interested in the history and traditions of Freemasonry, in a country which connections to Freemasonry dates from the 17 th Century when a royal family of Great Britain running from the British civil war get refuge in France. It would be interesting to acknowledge if there is any truth in the Napoleonic clue of the French freemasonry being Masonic historians divide about that issue. The Grand Orient of France positions itself in the so-called " Liberal" or "Irregular" freemasonry, assuming an open participation in the political debate in France and affirming a clear laicism concerning the intervention of the French State in spiritual affairs.
Exit le vieil espace ouvert en 1973, le futur musée de la Franc-Maçonnerie sera inauguré le 10 février avec une scénographie moderne. Des vitrines lumineuses abriteront les objets illustrant son histoire, tabliers, faïences, bannières et épées confectionnés depuis le XVIIIe siècle. “Nous avons de nouvelles acquisitions, précise Eloïse Auffret, assistante de conservation.
Et de plus en plus de dépôts provenant de particuliers.” Les trésors : l'épée de La Fayette et un tablier de franc-maçon attribué à Voltaire. Le visiteur découvrira aussi le parcours intime du franc-maçon à partir de son initiation.
