Freemasonry and politics

[...] As with profane society, individual Freemasons bring certain preconceived notions to the table when it comes to the political process. Often because of their roots and experiences, they will tend to lean toward one political ideology or another. Here in the United States, this means that an individual Mason may take either a conservative or liberal political view which further results in an alliance with certain political parties – most notably Republican or Democrat. But here is the rub – when do the teachings of Freemasonry trump one’s political leanings? Specifically, when does the revered Masonic tenant of truth come into play? [...]
